Athletic Training

Athletic Training

Welcome to Allegany College of Maryland. ACM offers athletes assistance to help prevent injuries and facilitate recovery when incidences do occur. Our athletic trainer is available during athletic events to aid with any injuries that may occur and for pre and post event treatments as needed. Athletes who need special care must bring written instructions for proper treatment. ACM's training room is located in Athletics/Physical Education Building and will be open at least one hour prior to all events and one half hour after all events.
What is an Athletic Trainer?

Certified athletic trainers (ATCs) are health care professionals who collaborate with physicians and serve as a critical link between athletic programs, emergency medical services, and the medical community. Certified athletic trainers work under the direction of a licensed physician and provide various services to the physically active. Their primary responsibilities include injury prevention, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions, organization and administration, education, and counseling.
