AUGUST:

SCAM ALERT:
The ACM Student Financial Aid Office would like to alert you to a possible scam involving email notices.  An unknown company is sending email notices to students asking for a timely response and a payment of money in return for an “incentive refund” to be used for school expenses.  The email is coming from “The Financial Aid Department”.  We are not sending any type of email notice out to students.  Please use extreme caution when opening this email or responding to it.  Thank you!

Please call the Student Financial Aid Office at 301.784.5213 with any questions.

DIRECT LOANS ARE HERE!  Beginning this summer 2010, ALL students who wish to borrow a student loan to attend ACM will be required to complete an Entrance Counseling session and a new Master Promissory Note (MPN) with the Federal Government as the lender.  Visit www.studentloans.gov , sign in using your federal PIN and complete these required steps to finish the loan application process.

Parents wishing to borrow a Direct PLUS Loan will also be required to complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) with the Federal Government.  Visit www.studentloans.gov , sign in using YOUR federal PIN (not the student’s) and complete the MPN.

2010-2011 FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION INFORMATION:

Advising and Early Registration for Fall is now in progress. Be prepared to pay the $35 nonrefundable registration fee.  Your financial aid will be deferred to the business office after your file has been verified and your award notification is run.  You will receive a financial aid notification of your awards in the mail. You can now view your application and award status on Student Web Services.

Students should complete the FAFSA on the Web Worksheet (FOTW) to assist them in completing the on-line application (www.fafsa.ed.gov).  The worksheet is available in the Student Financial Aid Office or in the high school guidance counselor’s office.

Please be advised that your Student Financial Aid File must be complete before August 1 to ensure that you are awarded financial aid in time for you to charge your books against your financial aid.  Files that are completed after August 1 will be awarded in the order in which they become complete.  This includes requests for funds in the Direct Loan Program.

If your financial aid and/or your loan request are not complete before August 1, you may be obligated to pay for your books yourself.

After the August 1 date, loan requests will be processed in the order they are received by the Student Financial Aid Office.  Please remember that you must have a completed and verified financial aid file before your loan request will be reviewed by the Student Loan Counselors.

Please be sure to complete your 2010-2011 ACM Financial Aid Application available only from our Website. The ACM (Allegany College of Maryland) Financial Aid Application is different than the FAFSA and must be completed by all ACM financial aid applicants.
