The Nurse-Managed Wellness Clinic supports health and wellness through health care services and education with the goal that all individuals become informed self-directed consumers of health care. Services are provided by a team of healthcare professionals and managed by a Certified Nurse Practitioner.

What you need to do?
  • Incoming nursing and allied health students call to schedule an Allied Health Review.
    • We help students understand the health requirements needed to begin clinical course work.
    • Students can receive services through the NMWC or their healthcare provider.
    • Student health records are managed by the NMWC, and compliances reported to the program and clinical agencies.
  • Students, Faculty, Staff and Community
    • Know your numbers! The NMWC offers cholesterol and hemoglobin A1C testing for diabetes and heart disease.  Contact the clinic for the next health risk screening days.
    • Have your Blood Pressure checked every Tuesday in the college center during Fall and Spring semesters.
    • Get an annual flu shot.  Easy and convenient, schedule yours today!
What we do?

We offer the following services which are provided by a team of healthcare professionals and managed by a Certified Nurse Practitioner.

  • Health Services required for students in healthcare programs and available to the general public include:
  • Physical exams- for students, employees and pre-participation (Sports physicals)
  • Immunizations- Flu vaccines and TDAP (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis). We can draw your blood to check for immunity (titers) for hepatitis B, MMR and Varicella
  • Tuberculosis skin tests (PPD)
  • Health Screenings offered each semester:
  • Blood Pressure

  • Diabetes
  • Anemia
  • Interprofessional clinical learning experiences for nursing and Allied Health students.

Service Details
    Health Services required for students in healthcare programs and available to the general public include:
  • Allied Health Reviews- We help nursing and allied health students understand and obtain all of the health requirements needed to begin clinical course work. Students can obtain services through the NMWC, or their primary care provider. Student health records are managed by the NMWC, and compliances reported to the program and clinical agencies.
  • Physicals examinations- annual physicals are recommended for early detection and intervention of health risks. They are available for students, employees and the local community. Pre-participation (Sports physicals) exams are also available at the NMWC.
  • Immunizations- Seasonal Flu vaccines and TDAP (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) are given on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the semester. We can draw your blood to check for immunity (titers) for hepatitis B, MMR and Varicella.
  • Screenings- help you to identify your risk and take action to stay healthy.
  • Tuberculosis skin tests (also known as PPD) screenings are required of healthcare providers. An initial 2-step screening is required, with annual 1-step screening thereafter.
  • Anemia screening hemoglobin blood test and education to prevent this health condition that affects approximately 12% of US women between ages 12-49.
  • Cardiovascular disease / Diabetes screenings- Cholesterol and HgA1C blood tests are offered during this screening clinic.  Learn your risk factors and numbers to keep your heart healthy!
  • Blood pressure screenings are offered on Tuesdays during spring and fall semesters.
  • Clinical Experiences- With licensed healthcare providers, nursing and allied health students provide services to people in a real-life office setting.Each clinical learning experiences include a pre-clinical assignment, pre/post-testing and pre/post-clinical discussions.Students and healthcare recipients are surveyed to evaluate the clinical experience. This innovative clinical learning model is supported by a Maryland Higher Education Commission; Nurse Support Program- II grant (NSP-II #18-301 Nurse Managed Wellness in Western Maryland).
  • Interprofessional education (IPE) opportunities- The NMWC provides an innovative team approach to clinical experiences for students in nursing and other allied health professions with a focus on community health and wellness. Allied health students from different fields work together in supervised clinical rotations to learn with from and about each other. IPE prepares students for a changing health-care environment –healthcare providers work together to prevent disease and encourage wellness through patient education and promoting behaviors for healthier living.

Frequently Asked Questions
  • Do I need an appointment?
    Scheduling an appointment is suggested, but walk-ins are welcome during on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 10-3PM.
  • Why do I need a TDAP?
    The adult booster for tetanus, diphtheria & pertussis is important for healthcare professionals and pregnant women to receive because it protects those immunocompromised - sick people and infants from these easily transferred infections.
  • How can I pay for services at the NMWC?
    Payment is due at the time of service. Acceptable forms of payment include: personal check, cash and credit card. Financial Aid will cover required health services for the AH and Nursing programs, for those students who are eligible to receive these funds.
