Being an ACM Allied Health student isn’t easy but our instructors are here to help.
In your experience, what are the “superpowers” that make a great instructor stand
out? They come out and observe what you’re doing, they watch closely, they ask about your
home life, your interactions, they are just great people. They always come in and
they smile. Its really interesting at AC because the instructors themselves are out
doing other things, like going to classes, going to school, continuing their educations,
that makes us feel like we can follow that.
Has there been a moment in class or an interaction with an instructor or staff member
that stands out to you? Tell us about it. I was falling a little behind on a few things here and there last semester and getting
a little behind and I went to my instructor and they actually took the time and sat
down and developed a plan to try to get out of being nervous about presentations
and things like that, and I actually have another one coming up here shortly and with
the help I got from my instructor I am not as nervous this time around.
What’s been your superpower that’s made you a great Allied Health student? I think my age. Whenever I graduated high school I went into the service, and I wasn’t
really focused. The service helped with that. But growing older throughout time I
realized that as long as you are still able to learn, it’s a good time to learn.
What’s your favorite piece of technology at school or work? The electrical impulse of the heart I think will probably be my favorite part of the
whole thing of what we are doing with those machines there is so much you can do and
so much you can diagnose. And I believe wholeheartedly that this is going to advance
to its own type of procedures.
What 3 things do you like (or love, we’ll always take love) about the courses in your
major? I love helping people. The main reason I got back into it is I have always been a
volunteer. I had my EMT, I am a volunteer firefighter. I just like to give back.
I thought about making a career as an EMT at one point, I would rather just volunteer
and help.
What experience (or class) at ACM surprised you the most? Clinical lab procedures – I understood the name and thought it would be more procedural.
I thought it was going to be do this and do that, but it was so much more hands on
and I really enjoy touching- that’s how I learn. If I can physically touch it I can
learn it. Watching movies, watching videos that’s all great but interactions and hands
on part it’s what makes it special.
What are your plans after graduation? Of course, I will be continuing my education. I would like to get on at the Veterans
Administration. And be able to help other veterans. And go down the path of medical.
