ACM BEDFORD COUNTY CAMPUS NURSING PROGRAM RECEIVES
STATE-OF-THE-ART PATIENT SIMULATOR
EVERETT, Pa. (June 6, 2023) – Allegany College of Maryland’s Bedford County Campus Nursing Program recently received the gift of a state-of-the-art Gaumard Clinical Nurse Patient Simulator.
This high-tech simulator provides ACM nursing students with the most-advanced technology in a wide array of disciplines and includes features such as conversational speech, life-like motor movement and simulated physiology that “blurs the line between simulation and real life.”
The purchase of the patient simulator was made possible through the Bedford County Regional Education Foundation with financial assistance from the family of Ann H. Shaffer, who owned and operated Berneice’s Gift Shop in Everett for 26 years before her passing in 2017, and a grant from the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies. The Shaffer family donated items from Berneice's to the Bedford County Regional Education Foundation. Proceeds were then split between the Ann H. Shaffer Memorial Scholarship Fund established through the Bedford County Regional Education Foundation and the purchase of the new nursing simulator.
Donors and partners recently visited the Bedford County Campus to meet with ACM administrators, faculty and foundation members and witness the simulator in action.
“These simulators are so important to nursing education, anything that can be done on a live patient can be performed on these mannequins,” said Rick Cooper, Associate Dean and ACM Nursing Program Administrator. “The simulations are realistic of what the students will see in the hospital setting with actual live patients. The mannequins do not replace the care the students give to live patients but enhances their learning while on campus.”
