Tristate Math Contest Winners Announced by ACM and LaVale Lions Club: Ridge's Sophia Zhang Takes Top Award

Tristate Math Contest's Top 10

CUMBERLAND, Md.—Apr. 11, 2024— Allegany College of Maryland (ACM) hosted its Tristate Math Contest on March 19. On April 2, the college presented awards to the region’s top 10 students and top three school teams, and the LaVale Lions Club provided ACM scholarships to area juniors who demonstrated mathematical excellence during the competition.  
 
The top three school teams were Allegany High School (score of 118), Mountain Ridge High School (score of 117), and Bedford High School (score of 115). The Frankfort High School team (score of 81) received an honorable mention.  
 
Four individuals were honored for their top scores. Sophia Zhang (score of 53) from Mountain Ridge High School took first place. Bedford High School’s Isaac Rubinstein (score of 50) came in second and Alexis Johnston (score of 45) from Allegany High School followed in third place. A.J. Koontz (score of 43) from Bedford High School took fourth place.  
 
Additional individual awards were presented to Nikola Litten (Frankfort High School), James Chen (Mountain Ridge High School), Anna Hilderbrand (Allegany High School), Dean Shupe (Frankfort High School), Grace Reckley (Frankfort High School), Violet Strozykowski (Center for Career and Technical Education), and Emmanuel Kujenga (Allegany High School).
