CMA to Nursing

The CMA to Nursing program is for currently certified medical assistant CMA (AAMA).  There is specific admission criteria and application deadline date for acceptance into this pathway.  Interested applicants should contact the nursing office for detailed information.

There are two pathways for certified medical assistants to enter the nursing program.  CMA to LPN or CMA to Nursing.  Both pathways are based on seat availability and enrollment.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Be a graduate of Allegany College of Maryland’s accredited Medical Assistant program through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB).
  • Hold a current CMA(AAMA) certification
  • Schedule and pass HESI standardized admission test with a required minimum score of 75. Testing will be available from 6/1 through 6/30 each year.  Please refer to https://www.allegany.edu/nursing/what-is-hesi.html for more information regarding this exam.

 


CMA to LPN

Course work is completed online with in person clinical requirements.  For N150W, students are required to set up their own clinical site and work with an RN preceptor to complete required clinical hours.  This option is completed in one fall, spring, and summer semesters.  Pre-Requisites must be completed prior to entering NURS 177.  When course work is successfully completed, graduates will be eligible for NCLEX-PN.

CMA to Nursing

Course work is completed in one online transitions course followed by 3 semesters of clinical nursing courses in the face to face setting.  The transitions course is only offered during the fall semester.  When course work is successfully completed, graduates will be eligible for NCLEX-RN.

**If accepted to the nursing program, students will need to complete all health and background check requirements for clinical courses by the due date.
