What made you choose Allegany College of Maryland? After moving to Flintstone, I applied to ACM to advance my career in the medical field.
I am a Certified Medical Assistant and Phlebotomist.
Why did you choose your major? I chose to go into the medical field because I want to be a labor and delivery nurse.
How was/has your experience been at ACM? I love it here at ACM; people are very kind and I’ve made friends throughout my journey
through my prerequisites and the first semester of nursing.
Why would you recommend Allegany College of Maryland to future students? I would definitely recommend ACM! The professors here care about our education and
make sure we understand the material.
Are you working while attending College? I am working as a PRN (as needed) Medical Assistant at a local clinic, so I pick up
shifts when available or on break. I also just started as the new peer mentor in the
Pathways office.
What motivates you, and why? My biggest motivators are my kids. I am a single mom of 7- and 4-year-olds. I was
a stay-at-home mom before getting my certifications in CMA and CPT. I worked in the
field for a few years and decided I wanted to advance in the medical field.
What advice would you give future college students? My advice would be to make sure you take time to prioritize yourself. While college
is important, so is your mental health. I have found it challenging, especially in
the nursing program and while also being a mom, to take time for me. Even if it's
only one day a month, I take time for myself.
