Name: Cheryl McInroy Major: General Studies Class: 2000
Q & A
Why did you choose your major? I was the first person in my family to enter post-secondary education. I was a non-traditional
student and chose General Studies because I was not certain which direction I was
going to take at the time. For me, this was the best decision I could have made as
I was able to slowly get acclimated to college life while working full-time and raising
children. Those two years gave me the time and the skills to decide my career path.
What advice would you give students interested in your career path? If you are unsure of your career path, General Studies is a great place to start.
After completing my Associate’s Degree, I had a better understanding of the college
experience and was able to narrow down my career path during this time. I did end
up getting a bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management and later continued my
education to get a certificate in Elementary Education.
What was your overall experience at ACM? ACM was a wonderful experience for me. It was small enough that I was able to receive
individualized help when needed, the teachers were excellent, and the overall experience
helped me build the confidence I needed to continue my education at a higher level.
Who was your favorite ACM faculty/staff member? Why? I hate to pick one faculty or staff member, as I feel everyone I dealt with, either
through the office or in the classroom, was absolutely helpful and friendly. I couldn’t
have asked for a better experience! I look fondly upon my time at ACM and the friendships
and future connections I made there.
What is your greatest achievement in your career? Having several degrees and different career paths in my life has been amazing. From
working many years in HR and moving on to become an Elementary Teacher - it was awesome.
I loved teaching, but after several more years, God took me in a different direction,
and I ended up owning my own business. If I had to choose, I would say owning my
own Real Estate company and being able to help people with their dreams would be my
greatest achievement.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: We are so blessed to have ACM in Bedford County! It is amazing to be able to start
your college education at a campus that cares so much about its students and ACM’s
staff and faculty are also to be applauded. They work so hard to ensure every student’s
needs are met, financially or academically. Not only did I attend ACM, but so have
all three of my children. I couldn’t be prouder of our local campus.
