Name: Dale R. Eichhorn, M.Ed Major: General Studies Class of: 1972
Q & A
Why did you choose your major? Allegany College of Maryland was known as Allegany Community College while I attended,
so my course of study was general studies. This provided the academic foundation I
needed when I transferred to Fairmont State College, where I double majored in Elementary
Education and Physical Education.
What advice would you give to students interested in your career path? I would recommend that students take time to consult, observe, and participate in
various levels of education and specific areas of instruction. Knowing where your
heart and your passion lie will allow you to fulfill your dream and desire to shape
the minds of the youth of the future. Additionally, the one constant in life is change,
and no more is that true than in education. Education standards, curriculum, materials,
and best practices are constantly changing and those who chose to enter a career in
education must be willing to accept this.
What was your overall experience at ACM? My experience at ACM was a positive one that influenced and benefited me both personally
and professionally. I found both the student body and faculty and staff to be diverse
and allowed everyone to connect with one another. My time at ACM provided me with
an exceptional opportunity to learn and achieve.
Who was your favorite ACM faculty/staff member? Why? During my time at ACM, I was blessed to know many wonderful faculty and staff members.
My favorite two faculty members were Dr. Betsy Ross Rankin and Bob Kirk. Dr. Rankin
always went above and beyond by providing instructional strategies to meet the needs
of all students. Professor Kirk consistently made you feel welcome in his class and
always made the initiative to listen and show honest concern about each student -
both inside and outside of the classroom.
What is your greatest achievement in your career? I was blessed to have a long and successful career in education. The top highlights
of my career are as follows:
Presented the Drug-Free School Recognition Program Award at the White House by President
George W. Bush
Awarded the Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership by the Florida
Department of Education
Induction into the Florida Department of Education’s Principal’s Hall of Fame
Finalist for Fairmont State College (Fairmont, WV) Alumni of the Year
