Q & A
- What is your major?
I have taken Early College classes over the past three years, accumulating a total
of 40 credits at ACM and an additional 20 credits at other colleges. I plan to transfer
these credits to a four-year college to fulfill my general education requirements.
- What made you choose Allegany College of Maryland?
Allegany College of Maryland provided me with affordable opportunities to pursue higher
education while still in high school, along with access to a diverse array of classes
that I found appealing.
- How has your experience been at ACM?
From the very beginning of my tenure at ACM, I felt a strong connection with the faculty,
staff, and fellow students. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it feel like
home. Coming from a rural community, I appreciate that ACM fosters a close-knit environment
dedicated to supporting student growth and potential.
- Did you apply for scholarships?
As a dual enrollment student, I have benefited from financial assistance through the
ACM Foundation, as well as a free college class per semester compliments of Somerset
Trust Company. This aid has significantly alleviated the financial burden of pursuing
my education.
- Are you working while attending college?
It has been so much fun, and the teachers are all so good at their jobs. They help
you understand the content being taught and are really there for the student’s best
interest. The extra clubs, sports, and activities that I have been blessed to join
all provide me with such a sense of community and belonging. It's truly such an honor
to be here.
- What motivates you, and why?
I am driven by my commitment to academic excellence, my desire to be a positive role
model, and my Christian faith. This inspires me to pursue my dreams and achieve my
goals while continuously developing my skills as a leader and volunteer.
- What are some challenges you have encountered as a college student?
Coming from a small, economically disadvantaged school district, ACM has opened doors
to opportunities I never thought possible. For instance, being a part of returning
musical theatre to the campus and serving as the Theatre Club President challenged
me to step outside my comfort zone while enhancing my leadership skills and allowing
me to develop my abilities both on and off the stage. Additionally, serving as the
Vice President of Leadership for the Phi Theta Kappa, Omicron Pi Chapter, has helped
me connect with the Cumberland community and improve my time management skills.
- What advice would you give future college students?
Strive for academic excellence, engage with the ACM community, and embrace the diverse
opportunities available to you. Remember to grow not just as a student, but also as
an individual, leaving a positive impact for future cohorts.
- When will you graduate and what are your plans after college?
I will graduate from Turkeyfoot Valley Area School District on June 8, 2025. After
high school, I plan to double major in sport management and education, with a minor
in theatre. I am considering two options: PennWest University at California or West
Virginia University. My long-term goal is to pursue my passion for sports officiating
as a professional baseball umpire and/or a collegiate Division I basketball official,
while also remaining actively involved in community theatre and the performing arts.
Additional Comments:
I want to personally thank my peers, the faculty/staff, my professors, the ACM community,
and ACM President David Jones for their unwavering support, encouragement, and belief
in my abilities throughout my tenure at Allegany College of Maryland. The impact of
my time at ACM has profoundly affected my life, and I know that it will continue to
guide me in my future successes.
