Q & A
  • Why did you choose ACM and your major?
Wanting to help others in need was my primary motivation for going into health sciences. I found the complexities of the respiratory system fascinating. Having the opportunity to help others heal and recover from respiratory illnesses and regain their breath made the respiratory program at ACM a perfect match for my future goals.
  • What made you choose Allegany College of Maryland?
One of the biggest deciding factors for choosing ACM for me was the advice of mentors already in the respiratory field. They spoke highly of the ACM program, quality of instructors, and showcased their expertise as alumni who were excelling in their field of practice.
  • How was/has your experience been at ACM?
I am immensely grateful for my experience while at ACM. It was a platform that allowed me to have personalized education in a smaller classroom setting with an environment that encouraged dialogue, discussion, and hands-on learning.
  • Why would you recommend Allegany College of Maryland to future students?
For students that don’t just want a degree but want the experience and preparedness to successfully enter healthcare, ACM provides the opportunity to allow you to reach whatever goals you are trying to achieve. The professors and community are what make ACM a great place to learn and grow.
  • Did you work while attending college?
I worked full-time at WVU Medicine while commuting from Morgantown, WV to Cumberland, MD as a student at ACM.
  • What motivates you? Why?
I believe in the philosophy and virtue of helping others both on a personal level and in society. I am motivated by mentors in my past that have shown compassion, altruism, and selflessness when it mattered most.

  • What advice would you give future college students?
You are going to make mistakes, you are going to be wrong, and you are going to fail at things across your educational journey and that’s just part of the process that molds you into a better version of yourself. Be a skeptic, and apply critical thinking to your decision-making.
  • When did you graduate and what were your plans after college?
I graduated from ACM in 2011 and started working as a neonatal/pediatric respiratory care practitioner at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. shortly after graduation.
  • What advice would you give to students interested in your career path?
You can advance on this career path as far as you would like if you put in the work, and ACM provides the catapult of resources, experience, and mentorship to do so.
  • Who was your favorite ACM faculty/staff member?  Why?
I am forever thankful to the professors of the respiratory program during my time at ACM who were Bill Rocks, Paula Fuller, and Tom Striplin. They each challenged me to continue to grow and learn each semester. I am especially grateful for the personal mentorship that Dr. Rocks provided me and the vast outreach of other colleagues in the field of respiratory care.
  • What is your greatest achievement in your career?
Graduating from ACM has to be one of the most important achievements in my journey as a forever learner. I was honored to be a graduation speaker at ACM. This program opened up doors that allowed me to help take care of sick children with respiratory illnesses at top children’s hospitals all over the country. It prepared me to become an educator myself. ACM taught me the important time management skills that let me go on to finish my MBA and pursue a Ph.D. I believe my greatest achievement to date in my career is having the opportunity to build up others around me to help them accomplish their own goals just as it was passed down to me.
